(Board Certified in Pain Management)

The following items will be necessary at the Brit:

  • Table - a sturdy table would be ideal. The table is considered the alter and is where the circumcision will be performed. The table should be placed in a room so that there is enough room for me to stand behind it. There should be enough room in front of the table for the guests. Guests should be standing during the ceremony. Cover the table with a cloth table sheet (blue or white).
  • Kiddush cup - Kosher Concord grape wine for the guests and baby, and red grape juice for younger guests. Please pre-pour the wine and grape juice for the guests before the ceremony.
  • Hallah - traditional Jewish bread.
  • Baby care items - diapers, baby wipes, Betadine antibiotic ointment, two receiving blankets, and Infant Tylenol.
  • Elijah’s chair - a decorated chair.
  • Tallit - a prayer shawl or two.

Other things you should keep in mind during the Brit:

  • The baby should wear a gown that can be raised above the diaper level.
  • Turn off all phones and lower the volume on your answering machines before the ceremony.
  • Place a sign on the door that reads “Please come in” so that guests will not knock on the door during the ceremony.
  • Remind guests to turn off cell phones before the ceremony.
  • Have your guests come 15 to 30 minutes before the start of the ceremony so that it may begin on time.
  • Stop feeding your son ONE full hour before the Bris.

Following these guidelines will help to ensure a wonderful ceremony.
